Your first property search tactic should be to register with all the estate agents that sell property in the area you are searching in.
Find estate agents by either searching online through websites like Find a property, or Yell.com. It is also worth putting in the leg work and walking around the area you are searching for a property in, checking which estate agents have sign boards outside homes. Most of the larger estate agents have their own websites now, such as Foxtons and Hamptons.
When registering with estate agents, one of your main aims is to ensure that if a suitable property becomes available that your name is at the top of the list of buyers they are going to call in the future.
Showing you are a serious buyer is very important, as is constructive and positive feedback after properties you have seen - especially if they weren't quite what you were after.
If you can register with SMS and email alerts from estate agents so you get the latest properties as soon as they are available.
