Looking after the garden in summer

Water plants in the morning or evening to avoid the leaves from being scortched in the hot sun.

Feed every week with fertiliser.

Dead-head flowers which should help prolong flowering.

Help maintain moisture in the borders by mulching in hot weather.

Ensure climbing plants such as clematis are planted deep enough - usually 40cm.

Clip and cutback fast growing plants such as vines, climbers or hedges as these can get out of control very quickly.

Do not cut the grass too low. Raise the lawn mower cutter if possible which will allow the grass to resist wear and tear better.
