Add lights or create good lighting
Good lighting can have an enormous positive effect on a room; as bad lighting can create an uninspiring place to be.
Enhancing natural light
Enhancing natural light from windows, doors and skylights should be your first consideration when looking at lighting in your home.
Cut back any plants that really obscure your windows, allowing more natural light to flood in.
Also consider whether swapping curtains for blinds will allow more light in. Shutters are a good alternative to net curtains if privacy is an issue as they can be tilted to allow more natural light in.
Angle blinds and shutters so that the natural light is reflected up and bounces off the ceiling.
Placing mirrors in rooms with little natural light can make them feel bigger and more appealing to potential buyers.
Electric lighting
Having more than one lighting source in a room will allow you to change the mood of the room. If you ave high ceilings hanging ceiling lights or chandeliers make a great focal point.
Lower ceilings may need clever, discreet lighting, such as hidden spot lights or even choosing uplighters on the walls or standing lamps.
Uplighters make rooms look large and bright, while table lamps and soft lighting can make rooms feel smaller and cosier - ideal for evenings.
