Restore period features
If you live in period property, such as Victorian, Edwardian or Georgian property, restoring the original period features can add thousands to the value of your property.
Period property were usually built with a wealth of period features to make them look appealing at the time. Unfortunately, style changes and a lot of period features were ripped out in the mid to late 1900s. Happily, period features are now back in fashion so it may be worth restoring any period features looking rather worn in your property.
Which period features should I restore?
The main period detail buyers notice first is a fireplace. Period fireplaces are a great focal point in living rooms - as well as in bedrooms and even bathrooms. If you period fireplace has been removed visit your local salvage yard for original grates, mantels and surrounds.
Other period features that can appeal to buyers are cornicing, ceiling roses, high skirting boards, original floorboards, wooden banisters and pantries.
